PCM Mission Statement

The purpose of the Historical Society's Museum is to celebrate the history of Porter County. The Museum tells the story of local people and events by presenting interpretive displays of artifacts and primary sources.

The Museum stimulates intellect of all generations through informative and engaging exhibits. Public tours and programs attract new visitors and make the collection exciting and accessible to the community. Research of the permanent collection allows the staff to enhance the education and interest of its audiences.

Housed in Porter County's Old Jail and Sheriff's Residence, the Museum extends the mission of the Historical Society by enlivening local history.

Historical Society of Porter County Mission Statement

  1. To foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for Porter County's history through conferences, publications, awards, educational programs, consulting services, marking of historical places, and related activities.
  2. To stimulate and encourage the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Porter County materials and records calculated to shed light on the natural, civil, and political history of Porter County and surroundings.
  3. To function as a service organization and communications network with other historical societies and those interested in local history.
  4. To cooperate with appropriate individuals, organizations, and institutions on the local, state, or national levels in projects and activities that will promote and sustain a general interest in history.
  5. To raise and accept donations of funds, real property, or other property for the above purposes.
