The Museum is home to more than 10,000 artifacts
The Porter County Museum opened to the public in the second county jail and sheriff’s residence on May 11, 1975

Historical Society of Porter County Mission Statement

To foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for Porter County's history through conferences, publications, awards, educational programs, consulting services, marking of historical places, and related activities.
To stimulate and encourage the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Porter County materials and records calculated to shed light on the natural, civil, and political history of Porter County and surroundings.
To function as a serve organization and communications network with other historical societies and those interested in local history.
To cooperate with appropriate individuals, organizations, and institutions on the local, state, or national levels in projects and activities that will promote and sustain a general interest in history.
To raise and accept donations of funds, real property, or other property for the above purposes.
